It’s craft month in the US!

March is Craft Month in the US – as I learned from Martha Stewart when I had the thrill (yes, thrill!) – to be in the audience for The Craft Show. What a way to kick off Craft Month?! It was a great show with lots of rabid crafters oohing and aaahing over each demonstration. I even made a special brooch to wear to the show.

It’s only the middle of the month so I thought what better time to launch my blog and launch myself into everything crafty that NYC has to offer.

There’s so much free and reasonably priced craft activities here in some really cool venues: The Brooklyn Museum, New York Public Library and dedicated craft venues like Etsy Labs (the crafters Mecca), Textile Arts Center, SpaceCraft and Harlem Textile Works to name the ones I’ve been to/going to so far.

Many of these have been hosted by the creative and entertaining Diana Gonzalez of The Craftaholic

Over the next few posts I'll show you more of the activities and what they've inspired me to make. Plus just walking the streets here is giving me heaps of inspiration too!

And here's the brooch. A multipack of felt was one of the many giveaways on Martha's show so now the world is my felty oyster!

Hi Gemma, you have a blog too! I am watching with envy your NYC and worldwide adventures. It looks great; I want to move back to New York! Are there jobs for us at C.A.?

I just started my blog after what – a year of procrastination? Given all the amazing stuff you’ve produced since leaving NY and CA (including 2 gorgeous kids), are you sure you want to go back?! I’m enjoying being here but I actually don’t have the desire to move back for good. The urban decay isn’t as appealing to me anymore. I can’t believe how not much has changed at CA. A bit unnerving really.

  3. Hey Gemma,
Looks great! I love your St. Patty’s Day cards. You’re right about Americans, just another excuse to drink and decorate. (I did both of those things on Thursday, now I’m about to do it again!) We look great at Martha! Can’t wait to see more posts.
